Jesus said to his disciples,
‘A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another’ - John 13:34-35
One important way in which we express our love for everyone with whom we come into contact in our parish is by considering their best interests in whatever we do.
We aim that each member of our church family will always think about the possible consequences of our thoughts and actions on others before we do things, especially when with vulnerable individuals – the young, the elderly and those with special needs.
This is particularly the case with our ministry-related activities. Parish Council has put in place a number of initiatives that aim to ensure we achieve and exceed government and diocesan requirements around child protection and work health and safety. Our Safe Ministry Team meets regularly to review risks and to try to help those who run each of our activities to do so as safely and effectively as possible.
We follow the protocols established by the diocese in relation to Safe Ministry set out at www.safeministry.org.au. You can find a convenient summary of these initiatives for parents and parishioners at http://safeministry.org.au/for-parishes/safe-ministry-journey/safe-ministry-signpost/
If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to a ministry or congregation leader or to me, or contact the Diocesan Professional Standards Unit whose details are available at the above links.
